The Master’s in Linguistics offers students in-depth study of critical linguistic branches such as syntax, semantics and psycholinguistics. The programme also includes an introduction to research methods in linguistics, and to problems in the philosophy of science as applied to linguistics, preparing the student for linguistic research.

The programme offers solid coverage in the core areas of the discipline in teaching and research: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics alongside language acquisition and development, historical linguistics and contact linguistics. The programme requires students to engage in cognitive science, computational and quantitative linguistic analysis, and the revitalisation and documentation of endangered languages.

Students develop a scientific understanding of linguistic theory as well as an appreciation for the relationships between language and culture. Studying the workings of modern and ancient languages is a primary focal point in the course. Students undergo a pre-graduation internship and defend a graduation thesis before they receive a degree.

Upon successfully completing the programme, graduates pursue careers in private and public schools, universities and community colleges, educational organisations, international companies (as copywriters, editorial assistants, reporters, managing editors or technical writers, speechwriters, interpreters, etc.)
