Admission and Registration

Warning
The Ministry of Science and Education reminds prospective students not to fall for scams and to avoid brokers.


The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan received some information on fraud attempts in the admission process of international students to higher education institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 


Some international students may have been deceived to pay some amount of money to scammers promising their admission to Azerbaijani universities. The Ministry of Science and Education asks all prospective international students to be careful and not to approach brokers in regard to admission applications.


SIA: CAS (“Study in Azerbaijan: Centralised Admission Service”) / portal.edu.az is an official portal of the Ministry of Science and Education where prospective students can find all universities operating in Azerbaijan and make direct applications to the universities on the portal free of charge. We would like to emphasise again that there is no application fee on portal.edu.az. The portal operates in English enabling all foreign individuals to use it freely.

Admission
Western Caspian University welcomes applications from international students, and those wishing to study at Western Caspian University have to apply directly to the University from their home countries. 

 

Admission Process
In order to apply, applicants need to send the completed application Form with all the required documents to admission@wcu.edu.az.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, after being accepted by Western Caspian University, you then have to register as a student in the governmental system portal.edu.az


The deadline for registration depends on the decision of the Ministry of Science and Education, which is communicated through the local media. The university will update its website with information as it is received from the Government.

 

Visa and Migration
c travelling to Azerbaijan for study purposes have to get a relevant visa in order to enter the country.


Citizens from countries that have access to e-visa can easily apply and get their visa within three hours or three days. Please visit https://evisa.gov.az/en/  to obtain more information. Foreign Nationals and stateless persons may apply for an electronic visa.


For countries that have no access to an online (education) visa, an application can be made for a sticker education visa which costs $300 and takes about three to four weeks to obtain confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

 

Temporary Residence Permit
Upon arrival in Baku, all international students should contact the University (International Relations Department) to sign a contract with the University and for support obtaining a residence permit.


Foreign Nationals are required to get a temporary residence permit from the State Migration Service at least one month before the expiration of their visa. The International Student Admissions Affairs Office provides support and assistance to international students in addressing migration and visa issues.

Note: Students are responsible for covering any fees related to any migration arrangements. Students must obtain all the required documents prepared in advance and pay state fees to avoid any delays and fines.

 

Permits
Citizens from countries that don’t have any access to e-visa and where there is no Azerbaijani Embassy, has their visa issued at the visa section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan, and they can receive their visa in the nearest Embassy or Consulates of Azerbaijan. This process takes at least 2 months.

 

Registration a Place of Stay (15 Days Registration)

After arrival in Azerbaijan, foreign students must register a place of stay (apartment / hotel) during the first 15 days. There is no registration cost involved for Foreign Nationals  and stateless persons. The student or the management of the hotel or apartment should submit the relevant documents to the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan


For this purpose, a foreigner, within 15 days after arrival in the country, should apply by filling in and sending this application form and a copy of their passport (including the visa page and pages indicating the last entry to the country) by one of the following:

 

Online registration on the official website of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan by using electronic services www.migration.gov.az
Send an e-mail to: qeydiyyat@migration.gov.az
Visit In person at the Regional Migration Departments or ASAN Service centres.

The Unified Migration Information System registers the applicant's place of stay and informs us re same within one working day.
Foreign Nationals and stateless persons are registered for the following periods:

  • Persons arriving with visa for the period of stay indicated on visa
  • Persons arriving under visa-free regime–for 90 days.

No state fee is required for Foreign Nationals’ and stateless persons’ registration upon place of stay.
When a student changes a place of stay he/she should get registered according to the new place of stay, as mentioned above.


Note: When a foreigner or stateless person changes his/her place of stay, he/she should get registered upon the new place of stay within 5 working days from the date of arrival at the new address as envisaged by Articles 21.2-21.5 of Migration Code. If a foreigner or stateless person is temporarily staying in another apartment (accommodation) owned by a landlord in which he/she is already registered, his/her re-registration is not required

Extension of Residence Permit
Upon successful completion of the academic year, the duration of the residence permit is extended for another one-year period. The Temporary Residence Permit is renewed on an annual basis by preparing and submitting the relevant documents to the Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
