Western Caspian University offers a PhD program in Germanic Languages.

Purpose of the program:

  • Cultivation of highly qualified linguists dealing with methodological and practical issues in synchronic and diachronic linguistics;
  • Developing the current structure of research / teaching groups at the Western Caspian University and providing opportunities for existing in-service training courses
  • Strengthen research procedures using simultaneous and diachronic methods
  • Gain expertise in Theory of General Literature
  • Formation of theoretical and methodological foundations of professional activity in the field of foreign language education
  • Formation of philology expertise and professional level skills development.

The PhD program in Germanic languages provides a high level of program knowledge related to research and analysis of Germanic language and literature and simultaneously, strengthens the research procedures by using synchronous and diachronic methods. Moreover the program provides the general theory of literature, special skills and profound knowledge on the chosen Germanic language. Dissertants are offered a personalized training program for research projects. Research activities begin early in the program so as to allows articles to be published in high-end scientific journals, and to participate in science conferences and symposiums to share research results.

Western Caspian University is focused on international cooperation in order to improve knowledge and to share experience, inviting international experts in study fields like: Colin Love from the UK, Randall Baker, Rise Kelsey from the United States, Ross Douglass from Canada, Emmanuel Arcon and Martinez Cristobal from Spain. In addition, Western Caspian University offers doctoral students a chance to participate in the Erasmus Mundus program to improve their research and familiarize themselves with international experience.

Participation in the program and future perspectives:

The PhD program is offered to students with relevant master’s degrees. The PhD is intended for candidates seeking to earn the required qualifications in the academic field of language skills and at the same time participate in large-scale education enabling them to work in cultural institution, media, diplomacy and other areas.
