International Visegrad Fund
General information about the International Visegrad Fund.
The International Visegrad Fund is an international organization based in Bratislava founded by the governments of the Visegrad Group (V4) countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Republic of Poland, and the Slovak Republic in Štiřín, Czech Republic, on June 9, 2000.
The purpose of the fund is to facilitate and promote the development of closer cooperation among citizens and institutions in the region as well as between the V4 region and other countries, especially in the Western Balkan and Eastern Partnership regions. The fund operates several grant programs, and also awards individual scholarships, fellowships and artist residencies. Grant support is given to original projects namely in the areas of culture, science and research, youth exchanges, crossborder cooperation and tourism promotion, as well as in other priority areas defined in calls for proposals published on the fund’s website (http://visegradfund.org).
Scholarship
The Visegrad scholarship does not cover the full tuition fee. However, a semester tuition fee of up to 1,500 euros per student is charged to the university. If the semester tuition fee exceeds 1,500 euros, the rest must be paid by the student. In this regard, it is recommended to pay attention to tuition fees when choosing a university and specialty. At the same time, the student receives a stipend of 2,500 euros per semester. This scholarship is transferred only after registration at the university and to the euro account to be opened in that country. As the 2,500 euro is paid in September/October, the student must cover certain costs in the first month. If the distance between the student's actual country of residence and the university he will attend is more than 1,500 km, then a travel grant can also be applied for. But the granting of this grant is not insured, that is, it may not be granted.
Documents to apply
To apply for a Visegrad scholarship, a pre-Acceptance letter or Conditional letter is sufficient. If it is not possible to receive the acceptance document (for example, if the university's acceptance response is announced after the scholarship application deadline), then any document related to the application to the university can be added to the system. The second document is a copy of a foreign passport. A student can also apply for a scholarship for the second year of graduate studies.
Which universities?
All accredited higher education institutions in the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are considered valid for applying for the Visegrad scholarship.
Time for application
The application for the Visegrad scholarship usually lasts from February 1 to March 15. In May, the results become clear. In September/October, the part of the scholarship for the first semester is transferred to the student's account.
