Department of English language and literature
The Department of English Language and Literature is part of the Faculty of Philology and Translation. It consists of two chairs: The Chair of Literature and the Chair of Language. The department’s main objective is to equip students with a broad knowledge within the sphere of English philology – ranging from various national literatures to theoretical and applied linguistics and to a thorough training in the English language. In order to guarantee the high quality and standard of language teaching, the department closely cooperates with the Department of Translation. Its professional academic staff consists of 5 professors, 1 associate professor, 4 senior teachers and 3 teachers from Azerbaijan, Germany and Iran.
The Department of English Language and Literature offers 2 Bachelor’s programmes (Bachelor in English Language and Literature, Bachelor in Language and Literature Teaching) and 2 Master’s programmes (Master in Literature, Master in Linguistics). In the course of these programmes, students will gain expertise in the broad field of Anglo-American studies and be acquainted with the process of academic research, writing and publication. In addition to its Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, the department also enables students to acquire a doctoral degree in philology. After graduating from the Faculty of Philology and Translation, students are well prepared for a successful career as teachers and in various other fields of the labour market, and they will be able to contribute to the further development of Azerbaijani society and culture.
